Whos the good and the bad guy? // Quien es el bueno y el malo?

(English version below)

----------------------------------------------------

Sunday's insight:

Who's the good guy, and the bad guy? - Honestly, the other dude is always the bad guy, isn't it?

For this side of the world, the Soviet Union was the bad guy for 50 years. I'm not going to dive into religious division, because Oh God, what a mess... Um, 10 years ago Irak and Afganistan... Now it's Syria, Iran and North Korea's turn, or so some people want's us to believe... I'm sure that for them it is the other way around...

Absolutely no one I've ever met or heard IS the bad guy of the story, unless they are really cynical, or a cartoon.

Thugs, bullies, killers, assassins... and other rather truly evil people... Hitler.... They actually believe are societies victims that made them the way they are, they all do have actual valid reasons, at least for them, or so I'm told...

It is pretty much the same in the business world with our competitions. So. What defines the bad guy that we so much need to vanquish?

Besides looking for reasons to divide instead of searching for reasons to unite and so forth, definitely human nature rises from duality, and I'm not going to dive into really deep philosophical or Gods forbid religious deep waters... But, if we are all bad, incompetent, idiots before all of the others eyes, Is all of humanity, bad incompetent idiots? As I do not believe that of myself, but unfortunately I do about more than a g@y, or two... I wonder, What does that rather say about ourselves?

At the end of the day, How can we accomplish creation of something new if we dismiss the other guy?

Innovation is...

Creanme, lo he visto.

----------------------------------------

Innovation is:

A possibilities game... For greater the probability and greater its hidden possibility, the greater its success.

Everyone in the world yearns for certainty, security. Way too many take certainty on the numbers, but I'm afraid to say that most who gamble, the bigger the risk and less numbers, more he wins. And there are so few that gamble big thus little fe that win big. We hear about them all the time.

Lets look at a case: Intel. Apple a bit over 12 years ago went to his trusted provider and asked for him to develop a micro controller for their new gadget that was going to compete against Sony.

Intel arrogantly crunched the numbers, saw that Apple made computers so no indication what so ever that they could compete against Sony... So Intel laughed at Steve Jobs face and denied his request.... Who did not lose, but avoided billionaire earnings? And who's laughing now?
Steve looked for hidden possibilities, again, 'cause it wasn't his first rodeo...
Steve gambled on a tiny probability and hidden possibility. Voila. IPOD. That was the dawn of a whole new generation.

And, Why wasn't Sony able to create that market? Simple. Shyness. Fearful of keeping their Columbia Record label, with a miracle was that they did not lose their own socks.

Every MBA, PhD and other acronyms avoided the risk. Everyone performed their job wonderfully, by the book, down to the letter, protecting their companies interests.... that is, until someone else took away their cakes off their plate.

It is human nature after all to want to hold for dear life to what we have, to our current "reality". But my dear readers. There is NO WAY to avoid others advance and try to take away our cake. It is just matter of time. There is no Acronym in existence that will avoid the others efforts to innovate and gain the cake. That is of course, until again, someone else takes the cake...

"The only constant in the universe is change" - Plato

The game is NOT who gets to keep THE cake. But rather on who has cake all the time...
And sorry to say, there is NO OTHER WAY to have cake all the time but by innovation.

Simple.

And who ever says I'm wrong, could you please tell me then: Which business dynasty has lasted more than 500 years? Empires tumble. They all have weaknesses. All of them, believe me, I´ve seen it.

I believe that the longest a company has stayed in the Fortune list in the #1 position is 15 years about 40 ago... So there is a chance for everybody...

So What's up with creativity?

(English version below)

----------------------------------------------

A few years ago, an engineer collaborator used to say with pride: "What I love to do is to create, that is because I am very creative".... "OK, great"- I'd answer. Our boss who had his frequent sarcasm attacks insisted: " Ok, create then. I'll wait right here." To of course we all waited for his inventions to arrive. In fact, we waited a few years for any, anything to arrive. Nothing did  ever come from this "Creative" gentleman.

Around the same time, kinda' the accountant, which in any case and I will not dive into any textures here, used to say: "I'm very creative!"... Um, creative and accountant is kind of an oxymoron complete opposite, and if so, very dangerous. Anyway, This girl, same, every challenge we had to solve, she replied: "that is not the way to do it", "Good practices dictate", "no, no no no...." ZERO solution proposals, and worse off when we had to solve things, anything out of the ordinary.... Probably she was creative in presenting objections...anywho... Even with this two fellas, and a few other objectors, I launched 50 products into market in 5 years...

Far too many people I've met like this... I guess is one of those times that: "Yo have to be to know..."

It might seem that creativity is one of those virtues that everyone says to have and  prides on being, but, when it all boils down to "the test" of being, just a handful does pass. To be creative, truth and my understanding, we need 4 unavoidable traits:
1- Courage. Because even if you are fearful you may be creative, but what is it worth to create if everything will stay in your brain or the closed drawer? I don't think much. You need to have courage to present your ideas to the world, Think and DO outside the box. This second part is why most seem to forget...
2- Optimism. What is it worth being creative if everything you think is brought down in flames by "Reality dictates...". If on the other hand we have it loaded on the illusionist side, nothing much happens as it becomes unplaussible.
3- Visionary. And I'm NOT meaning it as the buzzword, but rather DaVinci's meaning: "Learn how to see, as everything connects to everything, but you need to know how to observe."
4- Imagination. Einstein used to say: "Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited and imagination is the main way for knowledge to arrive."

We true creatives incline to one or other of one of these virtues, more or less, they change in cycles, or shift the balance according to the occasion.
In my daily duties in this my new life I dedicate most of my time connecting everything to everything letting...

Truth be told that yes, all human beings can develop creativity, but beyond our self imposed limits, most won't dare. A friend of mine says: "Dynamite in hands of idiots will never explode". And I am NOT saying that uncreative people are stupid,. NO. What I mean is that even if all humans have the power to be, most will never use it, just a handful find a way to make it happen and worse off in different arenas. True, nobody can be everything in everything. There can only be one DaVinci.

Once you have created something, brought into fruition, make it happen, what have you, you might call yourself creative. Otherwise... Um, I rather you didn't.
My ex-accountant most likely doesn't even know the true meaning of the word... anyhow..

complaints and other annoyances // quejas y otras molestias

(English version below)

"There are only two rules to write:
have something to say, and say it"- Oscar Wilde

¿Idealista? algo. ¿Realista? Totalmente.
-----------------------------------------------------

In this my 70th published post and 11,000nd readership, I share one more of Sunday's Reflections:

Why, as humans, on the one side we complain nobody does nothing, and on the other we don't do it ourselves?
Though true that innovation does not grow on trees nor it will flourish out of a void, according to the biggest experts in history maybe too many rules have been established, out of which I do consider these the 3 main pillars:

"Everything is connected to everything, we just need the skills to find such connections"- Leonardo DaVinci
"More important than intelligence is imagination" _ Albert Einstein
"Creativity is intelligence having fun" - Albert Einstein

Then, Why do we stubbornly demand things from our on self voids, push our brains to fill it with knowledge and at the same time we limit fun and imagination to the minimum?
And on the other end of things, we copy everything, we don't take risks, to explore, we want everything "peeled, mashed and in the mouth"...

Why don't we stop copying, mind our own, do what we have to to better our world and at the same time, make some money. IS that so hard?? I do not think so.

Idealist? somewhat. Realist? Totally.
